The Fort Calhoun Student Council picked up litter on Highway 75 on Sunday, November 3. Members pictured are Abby Hillmer, Ben Everswick, Bret Klabunde, Sean Ramey, Anna Koenecke, Peyton Griesert, and Dani Dross. This has been a Student Council project for 7 years. We have the 2 miles south of Fort Calhoun. This is part of our community service projects that are part of being in Fort Calhoun Student Council.
As a means to advocate for breast cancer awareness, students and staff purchased pink t-shirts from FBLA during the month of October. The club raised $485 from the t-shirt orders, which will be donated to Nationalbreastcancer.org. October 28th was designated as a Pink Out day at school. Pink was worn at home football games in October and the volleyball team also hosted a Pink Out against Arlington.

NOTICE OF SPECIAL PUBLIC MEETING OF
Notice is hereby given that a special public meeting of the Fort Calhoun Community Schools Board of Education has been called.
The special public meeting is for the purpose of touring neighboring schools and their facilities in conjunction with planning for the facility addition/renovations and will be held on Monday November 18, 2013. The proposed schedule is:
8:15 AM Meet at Fort Calhoun High School
9:00 AM Gather at Fremont Middle School
9:00-11:30 AM Tour Fremont Buildings
11:30-12:00 Lunch in Fremont
12:00-1:15 PM Travel to Cross County Schools
1:15-2:30 PM Tour Cross County Schools
2:30-3:00 PM Debrief Session at Cross County
3:00 PM Depart to return to Fort Calhoun
An agenda for such meeting is being kept continuously current and is available for public inspection at the office of the Superintendent.

On October 16th, the students were provided more information on bullying and how to handle bullying situations. Stacey Lichtenberg, from the Fremont Crisis Center, was the presenter for each classroom. In her lessons each student had the opportunity to internalize bullying by creating an art project. The lesson involves a discussion on building a community garden, what that looks like, who participates and what would happen if one person came in and tried to ruin what the community had done to create a healthy garden. They also discussed how the school is the students community. When the students plant a garden of kindness in their community it ignites kindness. Once you water the garden of kindness such as saying nice things and being nice to each other the bullying will end.

The Pioneers had 8 athletes competing at the state meet this past Thursday at Kearney.
Results for the girls, Ellie Shaffer 26th and Abby Hillmer 31st. Results for the boys, Ben Everswick 9th, Adam Robinson 13th, Alex Tietz 33rd, Peyton Griesert 65th, Sean Ramey 80th, Steven Determan 93rd. The boys finished 3rd place as a team. Great Job Cross Country Teams!!!

The students at Fort Calhoun Elementary School participated in Fire Prevention Week by visiting with Volunteers from Fort Calhoun’s Volunteer Fire department. Students heard the importance of trying to prevent kitchen fires and talking to parents about fire safety from Assistant Chief Al Ertzner. Then, they were able to explore a fire truck and an ambulance with volunteers Don Casey, Dave Nuemann and Melissa Biodrowski.

FBLA sponsored a Pie in the Face Contest during Homecoming week to raise money for the March of Dimes. Throughout the week students put money into teacher’s containers and also bought tickets for the opportunity to be the person to give the teacher the pie. The teacher who raised the most money was Mr. Christensen and the student picked to give the pie was Riley Mitchell. Thank you to the teachers who participated and the students who donated money. Fifty dollars will be donated towards the March of Dimes.
