Fort Calhoun Community Schools

-School Improvement Reflection Sheet-

Standard:    5.4                Date:     1/15/2014__________________________

-The school engages in continuous process to determine verifiable improvement in student learning, including readiness and success at the next level.

School:  Elementary ___X__     High School _____

1.  What strategies (documentation) are already in place to meet this standard:

-We currently have data parties to communicate students’ data that is collected. We have color coded spreadsheets that depict where the student falls in accordance to benchmark for all assessments administered. Assessments have specific data charts, trends, comparisons and benchmarks in comparison with district, local, and national results.

2.  If you rated 3 or below on this standard, what resources/support is needed to improve:

-We have a procedure (data parties) but we do not have a policy on defining and describing the process of analyzing data).

-We need specific policy on how analyze data presented to us. We are unaware of any policy if it does exist. Clear steps need to be communicated so we know the specific process and procedure of policies.

3.  List your topics of discussion today:

-The collection of data and interpreting it for improving instruction and student performance.

4.  Do you have any questions or concerns related to this standard:

We know there is procedures but is there policies on the process for analyzing data?

5.  If necessary, what are the next steps we should take to meet this standard (set goals):

Developing and creating a policy.

6.  Place your ratings that you gave each question that is listed under the standard here:

Q1___2__ (Need a written policy to advance to a ‘3’ or ‘4’)

Q2__2___ (Results do indicate improvement but we are not ‘consistently’ or intentionally using results to design and drive instruction)

Overall Rating: ___2___

-We have procedures during data parties but we need policies in what is mandatory. For Question 2, we feel that upper elementary use data and standards to drive instruction to increase our results and progress on test; using Des Cartes.

Evidence:

1.Results of NeSA, NWEA and DIBELS shows progress and growth

2. Team Feedback sheets after data parties that log discussion and minutes

3. Evidence of student success at the next level (prepared for grade level material presented)

School:  Elementary _____     High School ___X__

1.  What strategies (documentation) are already in place to meet this standard:

-Data is gathered about how former students are doing in college.  Exit interviews are also done each year with outgoing seniors.  After students have been out of a high school for a year, they are sent a survey to fill out.  Information is also gathered regarding special education students to see how or where they are after they have graduated.

2.  If you rated 3 or below on this standard, what resources/support is needed to improve:

-Policies and procedures need to be clearly defined to everyone so all can analyze data to determine if students are prepared for college and if they are successful after high school

3.  List your topics of discussion today:

-Discussed ways that students have improved or regressed after graduating high school.  Basically what students are doing or how students are doing in college or the real world.

-NWEA and NeSA test scores compared from year to year to determine students improvement

4.  Do you have any questions or concerns related to this standard:

5.  If necessary, what are the next steps we should take to meet this standard (set goals):

-How to use test results more and more consistently.  Making sure expectations and school improvement at the next level has a clearly defined procedure to teachers and other stakeholders within the district.

6.  Place your ratings that you gave each question that is listed under the standard here:

Q1___3__

– how in-depth is it analyzed?

– do we have a policy that analyzes data and success of the students

    – we have a process ->

-> if a state passes a statute: then it is assumed the policy is enacted in the school since the school has to follow that policy

        – we use data because the state has the policy

        – any state statute that dictates these policies is the school policy

– NSAA: policy for eligibility, we can increase the level, but we cannot go below it (if the state creates a policy, we automatically follow it)

Q2___2__

– we don’t consistently do this . . .

Overall Rating: ___3___

Potential Evidence:

– SAT testing process, results of NESA and NWEA

– Senior exit survey (readiness for college, after being in college another survey is filled out)

– Information gathered for Special Ed. students (after graduating how are they are doing after graduating)

– Regular grades to see where they are at

– How they have improved from year to year
