Technology at the “Fort”

A search for ‘coding’ in the app store turns up dozens of results. At the Elementary school, the objective in Mr. Mallette’s HAL class was to become familiar with coding terms and how to create a program, and to introduce 21st Century Skills such as communication, collaboration, creative thinking, and critical thinking. At the Junior High level, the Tech Skills classes set out to explore and evaluate the various free coding apps offered by developers for use on iOS. Students worked in teams to explore and evaluate five different coding apps of their choice. With their partners, the students wrote papers providing both general information and their opinions of the apps they chose. This unit helped students see a small sample of the many coding languages that make our ever expanding digital world work.” At the High School, students have the opportunity to take a Robotics class where they build their  robots and compete against each other in class but also get to compete in competitions outside of school. This year they participated in the Benson Robotics Tournament and at Skills USA State Competition. Last year, they performed well at the State level and even went on to the National competition.
