COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Metals I will expand knowledge in basic metal working skills; such as foundry work, oxygen-acetylene welding, brazing, and forging. Students interested in manufacturing are encouraged to take this class. Mode of presentation: lecture, discussion, film, video, Internet, demonstrations, lab work, and whiteboard/chalkboard exercises. Student skills and knowledge to be gained: the ability to safely use tools and equipment, to weld with SMAW (arc/stick), to weld with MIG, to weld with TIG, to understand brazing, to understand foundry work, and to demonstrate bending and cutting bench metal and shop cleanliness.
