COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This class is the study of the single cylinder engine through which an understanding of the operation of all internal combustion engines is gained. Each student disassembles, measures wear, repairs, orders parts, assembles, and troubleshoots a small engine. Students interested in transportation should take this class. Mode of presentation: lecture, film, video, Internet, group work, demonstrations, lab work, white board, and chalkboard exercises. Grading procedures: tests, quizzes, major projects, papers, essays, lab projects, cleanliness, and class participation. Student skills and knowledge to be gained: the ability to safely use all tools and equipment; to demonstrate knowledge of the engine systems; to demonstrate acceptable troubleshooting procedures, to gain knowledge of routine care and maintenance; to repair or replace worn or broken parts; and to gain knowledge of the importance of the engine manual.
