This year, the Elementary school PE students did a fundraiser for Hoops for Heart. Hoops for
Heart is a fun event where kids can play basketball, learn about their heart and how to stay
healthy, while raising money for the American Heart Association. Furthermore, throughout the
course of two weeks, the students learned and practiced different basketball skills; including,
dribbling, shooting, passing, man-to-man and zone defense. In the end the Elementary students
raised $5,140 for Hoops for Heart. Tilden Nottleman collected the most donations with a total of $500. Great job to everyone that participated!
Sixth Grade Dissects Trout 2017
Sixth graders dissected Rainbow Trout as part of the Trout in the Classroom project through Nebraska Games and Parks. Students explored the external and internal anatomy of the fish to better understand their structure and adaptations. The project started before the fish eggs arrived in January and has included research writing, communicating with schools across the country in a quilt square exchange, and will culminate with a field trip to release the fingerings raised in the classroom tank.

They visited the Omaha Public Schools TAC building to observe over 1,200 works of art on display for the Scholastic State Art Exhibition. They also visited the Joslyn Art Museum and participated in both a self-guided tour, and docent led tour. Students are pictured in front of a glass blown sculpture titled “Inside & Out” by living artist Dale Chihuly.

On Tuesday, Fort Calhoun Junior and Senior High Schools were honored to get a concert from U.S. AirForce’s Heartland of America Band. Teachers and students alike were thrilled with the performance. Many came in not knowing what to expect and were surprise that it was a rock band. It was a fun break in the day.
Happy Birthday Nebraska
Fort Calhoun Elementary students celebrated Nebraska’s 150 birthday by dressing up as Pioneers, Cowboys and Native Americans. To quote Ben Sass, “Happy Birthday, Nebraska! May the legacy of the homesteaders, caretakers of the land, statesmen, and volunteers guide you forever.”

¡No te preocupes! Don’t worry! Spanish Club will help wish away your worries!
¡No te preocupes! Don’t worry! Spanish Club will help wish away your worries! Friday, Spanish Club got together to make worry dolls. Worry dolls are small hand-made dolls that come from Guatemala and Mexico. There is a legend that if you have a problem or worry in life, you share it with the doll before going to bed. Tell one worry to each doll, place them beneath your pillow while you sleep and the dolls will take your worries away.
