COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The students will experience basic residential construction activities. The lab time will be spent on and off campus, depending on the project and the time of year. Unprotected work such as placing concrete block and brick laying, and exterior framing are fall and spring activities. Cabinet making, construction shop cleanliness and upkeep, and interior finishing are examples of activities that can be done indoors. Students interested in architecture and construction should take this class. Grading procedure: tests, quizzes, major projects, paper/essays, lab projects class participation, and cleanliness. Student skills and knowledge to be gained: to safely operate tools and equipment; to perform concrete placement; to demonstrate an understanding of block and brick laying; to understand rough framing; to understand exterior carpentry; to understand interior carpentry; to demonstrate the knowledge of electrical construction; to gain knowledge of land surveying; and to attain knowledge of site preparation and building layout.
