COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed to introduce students to the many different tools, methods of construction, materials, assembly techniques, and general safety procedures used in the construction of cabinets. Students will explore career opportunities in the construction industry. This course will require students to use many different woodworking tools and power equipment Students interested in architecture, construction, and manufacturing should take this class. Mode of presentation: lecture, student presentations, group work, student projects, demonstrations, and lab work. Grading procedures: tests, quizzes, major projects, student demonstrations, lab projects, cleanliness, and class participation. Student skills and knowledge to be gained: to develop a safety conscious attitude while working; to operate all tools in a safe and responsible manner; to demonstrate quality joints; to learn to read plans; to develop a plan of procedure; to develop a bill of materials; to identify woods and their characteristics; and to demonstrate various finishing skills.
