COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course provides students with a thorough grounding in American Literature spanning from the early (Native American) to contemporary (20th Century +) periods. Through the readings in the course textbook, novels, and supplemental literature, students will explore and become familiar with a variety of genres, literary devices/techniques, authors and their purpose, cultural/societal influences, and our personal connections with the readings.Students will do a variety of writing assignments (primarily concentrating on the persuasive essay), both formal and informal, with the integration of one, some, or all aspects of the Six Traits of Writing and MLA Style/Format. Grammar, usage, vocabulary, and group projects will be incorporated into the course as well.
