COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students are expected to learn various materials presented through lecture, discussion, and demonstration while in the midst and context of a performance-oriented ensemble. Material will include areas of music theory— which incorporates, among other things, the science of the properties of sound and the physics of acoustics— and music history, which is integrally tied to world history and anthropology. Performance mediums will include marching band, concert band, and pep band. As a part of a performing ensemble, students are expected to continually develop their instrumental performance skills. The 20th Century Emphasis is offered every four years.
