COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Beginning Spanish emphasizes becoming familiar with the sound of the language and building vocabulary, along with expressing brief sentences for conversational skills. Initially, quizzes will consist of listening and the comprehension of Spanish, progressing to simple reading comprehension and writing simple, complete sentences in Spanish. A notebook for Spanish is required and will be graded. The workbook and CD exercises involve listening and responding, along with speaking, reading and writing for each chapter. Also a cooperative project, usually relating to the Hispanic culture and/or historical aspect of the student’s choice, will be completed. This course would be helpful for students in all careers.

Grading: Class participation, daily work, quizzes, major projects, tests

Presentation: Lecture discussion film, video, Internet, student presentations, group work performance, student projects, demonstrations, speakers.
