COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Students will learn to safely operate power equipment such as: table saws, planers, jointers, band saws, lathes, and more. Students will develop many skills in working with wood in a furniture construction lab. Students interested in architecture, construction, and manufacturing should take this class. Mode of presentation will be: lecture, discussion, film, video, Internet, student projects, demonstrations, and lab work. Grading procedures: tests, quizzes, major projects, papers/essays, lab projects, class participation, and cleanliness. Student skills and knowledge to be gained: the ability to safely use tools and equipment; to identify woods and their characteristics; to demonstrate quality jointing; to perform quality finishing techniques; to develop bills and materials; and to develop plans of procedure.
